Art Kleiner takes the concept of Core Groups from many walks of life (sports, politics, government, etc.) and attempts to illustrate the behaviour of these groups in organizations with respect to the power and influence that they carry. There are many insighful areas worth exploring from stockholder / stakeholder groups, consultant projects, school-children, new staff, other business partners, etc... Basically, it is about the main senior executive group in an organization that is popular and powerful due to a variety of reasons and this influences the directions that most major decisions in a company will follow. There are some parts that are fairly obvious, but once you go deeper into the issue, there are more useful areas to explore. Unfortunately, knowledge in today's world is too dynamic that efforts to understand or penetrate a Core Group may depend on a blend of factors, whether intentional or accidental... Still worth a look for organizational behaviour or management behaviour researchers.
