I've been going to Finland every two or three months for the past year, and have have been undertaking a casual study of Finnish culture. A good friend over there gave me this book and I read it on the trip home (Kiitos Tanja!)... Not only is it a quick and easy book to read, it reflected a lot of the subtle things I have come to understand about my new friends the Finns. It does so in the form of a story about a man who gets fed up with urban society and launches out into a fate-guided journey through the wilds of Finland... There's a lot of rolling with the circumstances, Finnish "sisu"/endurance, alcohol-fueled chaos, and it culminates in a Moby Dick-esque obsessive pursuit... Brilliant.
