Top review for a book by Chris Hedges
Dan wrote a review on War Is a Force that Gives Us Meaning
I enjoyed this book. Hedges, a former war correspondent, retells his experiences in war-torn countries to his readers while trying to expose war for what it really is. He also uses past literature such as Homer, Shakespeare, and other authors to show how war may be fought in different ways now but the underlying causes and elements of it are not so different than they ever were. His concluding chapter deals with the inifinite conflict between Thanatos and Eros and is intriguing but somewhat weak. Generally a great book that all should read so that one can get a more accurate picture of the causes between conflict and war.
