Biography
James Alfred Wight Sunderland grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, where he attended veterinary school. He worked as a country veterinarian for the majority of his life, only beginning to write at the age of 50. He remained in the region of Yorkshire in Northern England from 1940 until his death, with brief posts in the former Soviet Union and Istanbul in the 1960s.
