The Good, the Bad, and the Undead is the sequel to Harrison's previous book Dead Witch Walking. This book starts off sometime after the prequel's end. Bounty-hunter witch Rachel is struggeling to make the ends meet when it comes to paying her monthly bills. She gets work, but often as not, she somehow doesn't always get her pay. In this book Rachel gets contacted by the FIB (the humans' version of the I.S. who deal with supernatural lawbreakers) to find a missing person. It just so happens that the missing person is the boyfriend to Mr. Kalamack's secretary. In addition a serial killer is on the loose and he's killing off ley-line witches in the most gruesome ways imaginable. Rachel soon suspects Trent Kalamack to be involved with both of the crimes and she starts some investigation on her own, resulting in getting fired from the FIB when she goes against direct orders. Rachel's life has never been easy, but it still has the potential to get more complicated. Her new boyfriend is taking advantage of his demon-mark and her own personal vampiric roommate is starting to act a bit strange. Between the weakness she's gotten from her vampire-scar and the fight Ivy has to wage each day (and night) against her own instincts, who's to say how long Rachel will be able to keep her own sanity and free will? To top it off, her boyfriend's demon keeps popping up at the most unconvenient of times and he's after nothing less than Rachel's soul. The second book of Kim Harrison's tale of Rachel's life is at least as exciting as the first and the next sequel promises to be just as compelling for the reader.
