Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery was raised by her grandparents. She began submitting articles to magazines when she was 11 and, by the time she was 21, she was earning a living as a writer. Montgomery's first novel, ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, was published in 1908 and was an instant success. During her lifetime, she wrote 23 novels, an autobiography, and hundreds of short stories and poems.

I love this series so much that I'm thinking of getting it for my nieces. Its a beautiful story about an intelligent orphan who is on survival mode most of the time and when she lets her guard down a little she finds love in family and friends. The story begins when she is a pre-teen and follows her through college, work, marriage and children of her own. Its full of romance (books, scenery, childhood sweethearts, etc.) comedy and real life experiences.
