Lakishia Smith was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland in the Westport/Mt. Winians Projects; a small public housing development located on Baltimore's Southside. Lakishia realized that she had a passion for writing at a very young age; one year her grandmother had given her a journal for her birthday and from that point on one of Lakishia's best friends became her pen; she was just 9 years old. During Lakishia's middle school years, she began writing poetry, plays, and scribbled down notes for her first novel; by the age of 13 she'd completed that novel and titled it "The Teenagers of Wanersville". In 2005 she went on to self publish her novel "What Ever Happened 2 My King" a hardcore fictional story that depicts the rigorous tragic formalities of life in the hood. What Ever Happened 2 My King received immediate favorable notice in Maryland and went on to sell thousands of copies. The second edition of "What Ever Happened 2 My King" is scheduled for release in the Summer of 2009 along with the highly anticipated sequel "Life's Pains Destiny's Gain".
