Saying that, I must admit, I mainly read fiction now. That's where all this began. I had an idea for a story and got talked into writing it by my wife! Well, it took me a while to write the first, The Barcza Gambit, but 90,000 words later I had my first novel. I neve more...

Saying that, I must admit, I mainly read fiction now. That's where all this began. I had an idea for a story and got talked into writing it by my wife! Well, it took me a while to write the first, The Barcza Gambit, but 90,000 words later I had my first novel. I never thought I complete it; I'd certainly never attempted to write anything so long before. The funny thing was, I actually enjoyed the experience. So one thing led to another and I ended up writing Sicilian Defence, White King, Zugzwang and I am currently in the process of trying to finish Octopus Knight.
I try to fit in some truth behind the stories, although they are fictional. So I read through the news, the BBCs website is particularly good, looking for what are the current problems in the world what are, what the Governments up to etc. or what could be used as the starting block for a story. So, you may say, the backdrops to the novels are 'What If?' scenarios. If X does this, what does Y do in response. That's where the titles for the books come in. They are all based around plays in chess. One character moves and then there has to be a counter move.
So what are they about? All five books revolve around the character, Commander Alec Fincham of the Special Boat Service (S.B.S.). He, and his team, get roped into undertaking operations for M.I.6. As you may gather the books are based around the military / espionage theme and are thrillers (hopefully!).
I write primarily for myself, and hope that others may enjoy the end product. I have had good feedback re plot and style and would love to turn truly professional one day.

My partner Joanne, who is an avid reader, read it shortly after we received last month and loved it. She thought the story was good, the plot well laid out and was impressed with the technical aspects which clearly demonstrated a decent amount of research which resulted in higher accuracy of details. Guess what? I absolutely agree!! The Barcza Gambit is a very good read, quite entertaining and flows well. Cave's char more...

Although DJ, Dougie and Mitch were absent for the better part of the book, I easily remembered who each was when we got to Gibraltar - there was none of that "ok, who is who?" Good job on the first novel. I guess we'll have to buy the others now!!

A compelling read. Good storyline and a great ending. I imagined Fincham played by Daniel Craig....Did you have anyone in mind when you wrote this i wonder?

The Barcza Gambit! A Great start! 21 Apr 2009

The first book in this author's storefront and in this set with the recurring character of Fincham. It was a super read for any action or military series fan. The characters were written well and didn't seem one-dimensional as some can be. I loved all his characters and certainly look forward to reading them in the other books.
The action and set-up in the book was also well rounded, extremely interesting and didn't make me want to put the book down once. The location descriptions were also nicely done.
As an avid reader who mainly reads action type books, I can honestly say this book is a must read and I will certainly be getting another from this author quite soon. less...
