In my opinion, a failed book. Since the release of THR3E and BLINK the two bestsellers that put Dekker on the map, his books have slipped in quality. The stories and dialogue, once undoubtedly Dekker, have become boring and uninteresting while the plot, for all its attempts at coherency, is tacked together by a single character (Clifton) giving us all the information to make the story believable.
Using a character like a detective as the main vehicle for tying a book like this together is foolish. After the Circle Trilogy, Dekker ties every book back to it, which hasn't worked for me at all since it started. He's almost trying too hard to put pointless details in the novels to tie them back when they could (and should) stand alone. Another note: Perhaps not Dekker's fault, but typos are remarkably consistent in this book.
