Born to German-American missionary parents, Katherine Womeldorf moved frequently during her childhood. As an adult, she followed in her parents' footsteps and served as a missionary in Japan. She received a fellowship to study at Union Theological Seminary where she met her future husband, John Paterson, a Presbyterian minister. Beautiful book about the wonders of childhood imagination, power of friendship and facing death and loss of a loved one. I read it once in 5th grade and could not stop crying. One of those books that I am refusing to read again- it's just too sad.
