Shirley Jackson was educated at the University of Rochester, and was married to Stanley Edgar Hyman, also a writer. They had several children. In addition to her neo-Gothic tales (e.g., her famous story, "The Lottery"), Jackson also wrote wacky accounts of family life.
I found this book to be awful and unreadable. The stories were really boring and just didn't do it for me.
