They are as integral as the text, with unspoken feeling and detail that fills in volumes even with minimal words. This book takes us on an autobiographic trip through Europe with him. It reminds me a great deal of Travels With Charley by Steinbeck. He is by no means a superhero, and somewhat like Bill Bryson, we begin to appreciate him for his flaws.
Anyone know when Thompson is releasing his next book? It seems like a long time. Carnet De Voyage was written while doing research for a book, but that was years ago.
