I had great expectations for this book. I understood it was going to address spiritual disciplines other than the classics of prayer and study/reading/meditation of scripture. I appreciated so much the direction of the first discipline for missional leaders. Creps instructs us to focus on our own spiritual development. His chapter on decreasing is right on. I loved the example of John the Baptist and his application of that in the life of a missional leader.
After that the book is steeped in what I would call disciplines that lead to organizational effectiveness. I found this so ironic. And while if applied I certainly do believe these disciplines will help leaders with the effectiveness of mission in a new era of "doing church" I resist so much the whole concept of reducing the organic family of church to measuring effectiveness.
Lots of good material and helpful insights but I am not that jazzed with the underlying premise.
