Topic : Andrew's Novels Should Have Never Been Continued
wrote
After VC Andrews died, her legacy should have stopped there. There never should have been any books published under her name after Dark Angel. Each subsequent book (and saga) was generic, and never had the flair of the Dollanganger series and the first two books of the Angel series. The subsequent books were horribly dull, and it seems the publisher just wanted to milk the VC Andrews cash cow as long as possible. I can't believe they're still coming up with new books based on her manuscripts. They need to stop!! They have ruined Andrew's reputation, and will continue to do so if they bring out any more crap published under her name. (Oh, and what's with the new covers? Why fix what isn't broken - the new covers look like sheit.)

I bought a new copy of Flowers in the Attic and wasn't too impressed with the cover. The older ones are much better - I got the rest of the Dollanganger series second hand and they have a much nicer cover and feel to them. I especially hate when they bring out a new cover after a movie has been made of a film and has the actor on the cover - I try to never get them. Original is best!

I think that for a while the books after she died were alright, worth keeping on my bookshelf. However, as time wore on, they lost all that would have me reading over and over again. I think it could still go, if they found someone with the same flare and style as she had.

I believe Andrews's series basically had the same pattern or themes: incest, rich people, boarding schools, separation from the parents, sometimes death from the parents, children out of wedlock, the continuation of the story after the parents have died. It just seems to be the same stuff over and over again. Her writings have never been the same. I don't think it's a good idea to continue with a writer's work after he or she has passed away. She could have had new ideas, new ways of doing things, plus only SHE had that voice, one cannot hire it out to a starving author and expect the same results.
