I really enjoyed this book. I only bought it as the free one on a BOGOF deal but it was excellent - much better than the book I actually wanted and paid good money for!

This is the story of an artist troubled with bi-polar disorder. Told posthumously from the perspective of different members of the family it brilliantly weaves together the different sub-plots. It’s a fantastically well told story only let down by the cop-out of leaving your imagination to tie up the loose ends.

Patrick Gale flows beautifully. I relate to many of the issues in his books, especially this one. Right now, I am reading his 'Rough Music' and it seems another goody. I love Gale's descriptive style and will get round to reading his others. Looking forward to his Literary Forum at the Buxton Festival 2010, Palace Hotel July 10th.

Gale is a great writer, who brought his reader through the highs and lows of bi-polar disease with compassion, but without apology. The family dynamics were close to perfect.

don't bother - didn't have a problem with the writing but the plot and ending were poor and left annoyed!

Usual Gale stuff. Interesting descriptions of Penzance made it more readable than otherwise would have been.

This was one of the best books I read this year. The story of an artist and family relationships. Have passed this on to many friends who have also enjoyed it.

Really enjoyed it. I've found a new author! Can't wait to read more of his. I like his style and the structure is interesting. It's like each exhibit in this exhibition is a chapter, gradually the story of the artist protagonist comes together.
