Undoubtedly my favourite of her lot. Excepting Runmarks which knocked me off my feet. Corruption, bitterness, revenge, human characters, shades of grey and a very satisfying ending.

I loved Chocolat, but I was disappointed by Holy Fools. I seem to be disappointed by a lot of books lately. I couldn't believe that the main character would still have such strong feelings for a man who continued to use and abuse her. And the sections written in his voice were laughable, to say the least.

Essentially the same characters as in Chocolat in a different setting, but I liked them the first time and they're still good this time round.

Read this for my book group, and probably wouldn't have finished it if not for that. Interesting setting, enjoyed it as a period piece, but not much in the way of character development.

It was okay. Not unputdownable. Not a keeper for me. Took me weeks to finish, which is unusual for me. Too many coincidences. More info about the relationship between Le Merle and the Bishop would have been nice at the end. Overall, it was "good." I much preferred Five Quarters of the Orange by Harris.

I loved the imagery - set several centuries ago in a remote French monastry. He uses his magic/trickery in various ways on the sisters, before a final battle with his one-time sweetheart and ace trapeze artist. Like the other Joanne Harris books I've read...more
