more This is a fascinating book about a fascinating person. I say that while simultaneously being an atheist! What separates this book, I believe, from many more mainstream opinions is simply this. This book is a history. It is generally flat and attempts to be factual. There is no plea to love Muhammad nor hate him. There is no call for tolerance of Islam nor is there an indictment of it. The book simply attempts to provide, in a wonderful pedagogical framework, a full understanding of what Muhmmad was doing, to whom, and when, along with some insight as to what he actually said. These facts create quite a bit of friction with what many say about his teachings and, maybe more importantly, the behaviors that many suggest that his teachings justify. The reader is left to contemplate the folly of those who have supposedly been following his teachings, along with those who attack it.
