This was a really entertaining read and the ideas behind it were interesting. It was a good romance novel, however the randomly dropped in lesbian character was awkward and the ending was a horrible cop out. I was really upset by the ending as it seemed to be taking the story to an interesting conclusion and then she just dropped the story.

A little predictable... However, I imagined a Scarlett Johansson type playing Eleanor if this were ever to become a movie.

Not for me... However, the ending was hardly what I expected, which is nice except I hated the end. It is the first book I wanted to throw across the room when I finished because I was disgusted; that sounds awful but you know the story had me involved or I wouldn't have been so emotional.

It feels like a novel of manners, written formally, with many short chapters contrasting the life styles of the two main women characters, and giving a sense of both the time (at the beginning of WWI) and the very strict...more

If there was such a thing as a negative star rating, I would give it to this book. It's one of the worst things I've ever read. So terribly written, and not a good story. It's shortness and my train ride every morning are the only reasons I even finished it.

The story starts off with a chance encounter, which throws chaos into the lives of everyone involved, leading to the tragic end. There are little twists and turns, as the characters evolve, influencing each others' developments. It also serves as a backdrop to the days of WWI, although not much is stated about the war itself. Plot:4 (again, interesting twists, but nothing too attention...more
