I've read a lot of Bill Bryson's books, and I was surprised how mean spirited this one was. However, I thoroughly enjoyed most of his observations and reflections as he travels through the majority of the contiguous US.

Well, a good read. This book is twenty years old so keep that in mind when he whines about the cost of hotels, attractions, etc. A typical Bryson travel log, a bit more whiny than his others, and he recycles a lot of his jokes through out the book. Don't seek this book out, but if you see it at a used book store pick yourself up a copy and read it at the beach.

I still want to read Bill Bryson books, but I...more

I've been told he has written better books since, so I'll give him another shot. Maybe I just haven't experienced the United States the way he did. However, I've driven coast to coast round trip twice, one-way once, to California round trip...more
