Everyone who knows me knows that I hate this book with a firey passion. The herione is a spoiled brat who creates problems in a world where she essentially has none and passes on her own insecurities by judging everyone around her instead of taking the time to consider their point of view. Bah!

A surprisingly poignant voice given the era during which it was written. I enjoyed it greatly.

The imagery and diction were unique though not at times I felt lost. I had doubts if what the main character was feeling/perceiving were reality or her own mental blocks. The plot is a big...more

One of those "must read" books, for everyone. Be prepared - ruined my life for about two weeks.

The Bell Jar is one of my favorite novels because I think everyone can relate to Esther in some way. I am not saying that everyone has felt suicidal or has a terrible relationship with their mother; however, Esther's thoughts about people and events are so similar to those of, well, a lot of people. Some readers of The Bell Jar will say that Esther's character is strange and that no one thinks...more
