Believe it or not, THE MOVIE IS SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER!!!! I thought I would love the book, but I was SEVERELY disappointed!

Excellent book, with some notable differences from the film - more flavouring, and Gaiman's knack of turning traditional fairy stories on their head

As already noted, Stardust is kind of a fairy tale for grownups. It is well written, heavy on magical, engaging atmosphere, but without much in terms of a plot. If you are looking for a quick read that is a lot of fun, pick it up. Incidentally, Stardust is clearly written for adults, not for children.
