Death has an apprentice. Well everyone retires some day. Unfortunately for Death, his apprentice has some fairly pie-in-the-sky ideas about what is fair in life and death, and this causes some considerable trouble with reality. This is the first novel in which we meet Death, as in THE Death. And he's a bit of a top bloke really. I loved this novel, as I love all the Discworld nevels in which...more

This is still my favourite Pratchett, early on in the discworld series, the humor is fresh and at this point Death was still an underused character. A brilliant book with a real heart and who would have thought that Death would be such a considerate parent. Any Discworld novel is a worthwhile read and will entertain, this is comic fantasy at its best.

The character DEATH speaks in all CAPS... it's interesting in that it shows the life of Death and his apprentice Mort. Can you be human and fulfill the role of Death or is it the lonely job of one not so involved in human affairs...
