Can I give this book 10 stars? It's an incredible story and it should be read.

Crazy case study, but amazing and relevant to modern medicine and ethics.

In this case, two male twins were set to undergo a laser circumcision when one of the two accidently had his penis lasered off. Instead of allowing him to live his life without the "normal" anatomy, his parents changed his name to a girl's, dressed him in skirts and blouses, and attempted to push him in to a girl's life (which they thought could only mean demure). There are many references listed for those interested in Sexology in America and some researchers from abroad. More importantly, David Reimer shares his life's story. It is a non-fictional work presented thoughtfully and with much respect to those persons involved. It is a good read and quite thought provoking as to engage, what is gender? How does gender happen? And ofcourse the nature/nurture debate is strongly present. A good find. A good read for anyone wishing to explore the truth of gender.   hide
