Summer is ending and so is the most important summer in Douglas Spaulding's life (so far). A nightmare causes him to fear death, and he thus declares war on the people closest to death, the elderly.Bradbury splits himself into two characters of this novel and is a true reflection of Bradbury's acceptance of death.

Imagine Peter Pan but in the twenties in a small country town except there is no Neverland so Douglas and his gang have to fight the real world to keep from growing up. Very fun, a little sad, kind of an odd ending but all in all a good book.

The sequel to Bradbury's "Dandelion Wine," written from the perspective of a man who knows his time on Earth is limited. Poignant, lyrical, and poetic-- in other words, typical Bradbury.

Dandelion Wine made me a fan, Farewell Summer left me wanting something different. The two connect, Wine just captured me more as a reader.

Spectacular new, yet classic, Bradbury! Made me laugh, think, and cry, and left me feeling completely satisfied! This guy just keeps improving with age!

I didn't like this as much as "Dandelion Wine," but for the most part, it was okay. I found it interesting that parts of this were written at the same time as "Dandelion," but his editor suggesting waiting. And wait he did -- 55 years! Frankly, I wish he had waited a few more. Interesting comments on aging; although I found the parts about the "life force"...more

It's no Dandelion Wine, but there are moments of clarity when it is just as powerful in its imagery. The ending is slightly disturbing... ok it's outright disturbing.

Worst sequel ever? If you liked Dandelion Wine, stay as far away from this book as humanly possible...

An interesting twist on the 'coming of age' theme. First Ray Bradbury book I've read in probably about 30 years!
