It kept me hooked from beginning to end and now I am devouring book 3 and 4. Keep in mind that this should not be compared to Twilight as they are completely different. Elena and Bella are exact opposites and as much as I love Stefan, he doesn't quite measure up to Edward. He is a much weaker vampire then Edward however, they both have their strong "vegetarian" beliefs about drinking human blood.   hide

I was not thrilled with the first book at the begining. I like her version of vampire (take blood be bitten and not turn unless you are killed with vampire blood in you...or something to that effect.) Many told me that they thought that Stephenie Meyer stole some ideas from Vampire Diaries. I'm not sure exactly if that's true, but there are definitely some big similarities. I read this book because I started watching the TV series and loved it! I have to admit, I am a big twilight fan. Many told me that they thought that Stephenie Meyer stole some ideas from Vampire Diaries. I'm not sure exactly if that's true, but there are definitely some big similarities. I don't know if it's because I started with the show, but I like the TV version better than the book and there are some HUGE differences. Other than the main characters being the same, and some of the starting plot, the show and the book are different stories completely. Also, if i had to choose, Twilight is way better. The chemistry between Bella and Edward is so much stronger than with Stephen and Elena.   hide

BUT, I prefered Damon. He had the same story, but everyone was so hard pressed on disliking him. I think, however, he was similar to Stefan with the exception that he didn't the girl...and maybe he didn't get a lot of things in life. I think he longed for humanity, for emotion, for someone to spend his life with and I adored the relationship he (very briefly) created with Bonnie. I wish they'd made a-whole-nother book just for them. I'd like to think he'd turned around by the end... Oh, and I didn't like Elena...I like the romance--even the triangle, but her personally, I just didn't care for.   hide
