This was the first Jodi Picoult novel I've ever read...and it definitely did NOT disappoint! The bond between Chris Harte and Emily Gold is fascinating, albeit a little creepy. Picoult does an excellent job of portraying the nature of this bond to the reader...and that is very important when it comes to understanding the actions of Chris and Emily. The book also provides helpful insight on the difficult subject of teen suicide. At first, when reading the back cover of the book, I thought it might be a bit too depressing...but overall, it was simply a fascinating page-turner that kept me wondering what REALLY happened to Emily the night she died. I highly recommend "The Pact," and after just finishing my second Picoult novel ("My Sister's Keeper"), I am HOOKED! I plan to read all of her novels.    hide

The Pact keeps you interested - it's a pretty accurate description of the typical high school relationship conflicts, except that it contains a hint of fantasy because who grows up loving the boy next door? I love this book because Picoult makes you confused about the way you feel about the characters - you love Chris because he is so selfless, and you feel sympathetic for Emily. But as the story progresses, I began to feel angry at Emily for being so incredibly selfish that she would hurt Chris so badly and ruin the rest of his life. I think we all go through life looking for a love as strong as what Chris and Emily had for each other.   hide

This book is amazing. I cannot say enough wonderful things about it and Jodi. I love SO many of her books, but this one was especially meaningful for me. She tackles such important topics in all of her books, but this one and the topics of suicide and depression are so important. I truly felt like Emily in so many ways. I don't know how she does it, but Jodi has this ability to make the characters absolutely real. She is a truly phenomenal author and I would recommend her to ANYONE!    hide
