This is my first Marian Keyes book, and I thought it was very good - dealing with the pain of loss, and the time it inevitably takes to come to terms with it. The family Walsh provide the hilarious subplot, and although the professional world depicted (the beauty industry) is hard to take seriously, it doesn't detract from the honesty at the heart of this book. Marian Keyes definitely falls into the category of Chicklit. But I would say she is one of the far better writers of Chicklit out there. Prior to reading this book, I was asked the question: when was the last time a book made you cry? I couldn't come up with an answer. In fact, I avoid books that make me cry - and it's usually hard to get me crying over a book anyway. This book made me cry. ...more

This is a fabulous book! The story is close to our very own home and easily related to. Hilariously written. Got me rolling in tears of laughter one minute and tears of sudden sadness and sympathy the next. I love her characters, and especially how she writes about the Walsh family in several of her books. Despite their hilarious quirks and weird and wonderful personalities they all seem so believable... and likeable! Marian is back with the Walsh Family thsi time with Anna, When we last heard from here, she was a drifter with a waster boyfriend called Shane in Ireland, now she was in beauty PR in New your and is married. This book is really split in two, the first half is a mystery which is kind of new for Keyes, and the second half is all about the reveal and living with the consequences. Its not may fav but...more
