Once I read this good book about this great man, I deemed him as my uncle. Uncle Sidney comes off the pages, in to the room, sits and tells you about his life.
I first heard Sydney Poitier talk on NPR on a program called "The Story" and from hearing him I had to read his book. I was much more impressed with his talk but the book is still good. I like the quote from his father where the name of the book came from "the measure of a man is how well he provides for his children".
A quick read. Interesting perspective on the Civil Rights era from a Bahamanian who grew up outside the U.S. political system. Inspiring, but long-winded, and at times egotistical.
