I really like this author, but this wasn't one of my favorites of her books. It was clever and well-written, but it's kind of forgettable.

Amazing book, and such a departure from Levine's signature genre.

Levine is fantastic--she can take any situation and make it believable. She wove together many different kinds and types of people to create an intriguing story about time and place. The book was good, but didn't stick with me as much as her fantasty books.

It's nice to know that Ms. Levine can write something beyond a fairy tale. Her clean imagery opens up the world of 1920s New York and the adventures of an orphaned boy who ventures (at night) from his abusive orphanage to see the wonders of the Harlem Renaissance. This was a book I read in one sitting. It's enthralling, and even though different from her usual topic, fantastic.
