May Amelia is a 12 year old girl living in the early 1900's on the Naselle river in Washington. Growing up with only brothers in an area now known as Little Finland doesn't exactly give her an easy childhood. The writing style in this book is different than any other I've read but I thought it was a neat change from what I'm used to seeing. Very good story written at about the...more

This was a really enjoyable book. Historical fiction for kids done really well. Deals with immigrants from Finland, which you don't read about every day. It's a great story set in the late 1800s in Washington. My daughter and I added her to our list of "really cool female characters that we'd like to meet". :) There are definitely some sad parts but for the most part it's a really fun and...more
