I honestly wish that I had had the opportunity to read this series as a child. Nonetheless, although 23 years old, I was enthralled by the story of how Narnia came to be. I relished the religious parallels that Lewis made, and found his writing style to be refreshing. There were no pointlessly long descriptions (as one often finds in books geared solely toward adults), the characters were well developed, and the overall plot was very creative. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the remaining books!   hide

I think out of the six I have read of the Chronicles, this was my favorite thus far. I think out of the six I have read of the Chronicles, this was my favorite thus far. I must admit that I began this one after taking a break from the Chronicles with the aim of just getting through them so I can say that I have finished the series, but was pleasantly surprised by it. I was getting tired of the style of his writing but this one was refreshing. It seems that this puts everything into perspective because it tells how Narnia came into existence and so, the entire series begins to connect a little better in my mind. I loved this book and have continued to love it since the first read when I was very young. It is a beautiful, exciting, whirlwind ride, and was always my favorite chronicle. My copy is so worn and beat up because I would crave it, and then devour it in less than two hours. Sometimes just to visit that wood between worlds.

A stunning allegory of the creation of the world and the problem of evil; I read this when I was a little girl, and I was astonished to find out how much more I liked it when I became an adult. If you haven't read this, I would strongly suggest reading it; if you already have, read it again!
