Wow, expert character development with profounds insights into the contradictions of human psychology with intriguing theological musings. I never thought a book this dark could make me feel so good.The story revolves around a parricide (murder of one's own father) where three very disparate son's all have compelling motives an innocent man is tried and convicted. As Dostoyevsky grants insight into the tortured and contradictory elements of the defendant's psyche we understand completely how he is innocent. The logic he uses in defending his innocence is completely consistent within the framework of his own mentality, yet rediculous to one not aflicted with his unique thought process.This is one of the great classics for a reason.   hide

A very thoughtful friend, with a great memory! bought me this book for my birthday as I started to read it in Spain where I started reading Dostoevsky. I never got round to finishing it and left my copy in Spain, so was very happy to get another one. I'm sure I'm in love with Alyosha though!

Oddly enough, I'm sure this book ended differently the first time I read it. Isn't that strange? Either way, a great book full of interesting ideas on people, and faith.

I read it a long time ago in school. At the time I really didn't like it. It grew on me. It takes a long time to develop the charachters. But it is worth it. Well worth reading...
