Wow, i didn't realise this was fictional until after i'd finished reading it (the preface confuses things) anyway it was brilliant, once again the honesty shone through and i was educated in culture, history and the human nature in the most wonderful way.  Wow, i didn't realise this was fictional until after i'd finished reading it (the preface confuses things) anyway it was brilliant, once again the honesty shone through and i was educated in culture, history and the human nature in the most wonderful way. Its as honest as the movie is beautiful and i was left wondering at what an amazing author Golden is! It feels real and i cried, my freaking eyes out :l
SO enlightening, a stunning, captivating and incredably educational book. Its raw and bare nature somehow seems beautiful upon reflection. The movie is as beautiful as the book is candid.   hide

It moves from a small fishing village in 1929 to the glamorous and decadent Kyoto of the 30s and on to postwar New York. This book was at times hard going, but in general it was a good read. I felt I was almost transported to the Kyoto teashops where Geishas worked and gained a deeper knowledge of their everyday life.   hide
