The really interesting aspect, I thought, was the examination of severe agoraphobia and what appeared to be OCD, or possibly Asperger’s (maybe even autism). The book doesn't make any specific assertions, but Merricat is clearly a troubled young girl and the novel immerses us totally into her world.
