I actually love East Of Eden.  I haven't read this one but it was my only Steinbeck choice.  Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors and has been since junior high.

This is a better read than East of Eden.  It is interesting the things this great and well know writer gets bogged down on - (the kind of pencils he uses and his chair).

This book is an insignt into Steinbeck's vision for East of Eden through his letters with his best friend and editor, Pascal Covici.  It is a wonderful insight into his thoughts about life and Americans, and his enduring vision of what it means to be a human being.  Very powerful
