Here's an interesting trivia fact about the book: Steinbeck's dog, Charlie, ate the first draft of the novel, so the author had to recreate the entire novella from memory. Buy it, read it, own it, pass it on to others. If you read it as a high school student, reread it as an adult. For such a short novel, I've always discovered new elements in it every time I reread it.
