The Histories (Penguin Classics)

i don't know... i hated this book. but maybe it's because i had to read it when i was in seventh grade. so glad to be out of classical school...

How can you 'rate' something like herodotus? It is what it is.

This is a valuable work that cannot be replaced. It's an important read for those seeking knowledge of the ancient world, and has some good insights, quotations, and stories as well. It can drag and be a tough read at times, however, and the economic/cultural parts were a little more cumbersome than the political/war story. Glad I read it though.

Hard to get through this translation, but good.
