A Hero of Our Time (Penguin Classics)

Lermontov is truly the hero of my time.

A Russian classic from the 19th Century but Pechorin is still recognisable today. A shallow man who wanders through life with no particualr purpose and very few morals. I can think of a few politicians who would fit this description.

I find this book written pretty cinically. I don't like hero's motivations doing things, meeting people and talking with them. I know it's that kind of russian depressive antihero of 19th century but that point of view doesn't talk to me. Some pasages are very well done.
