Dear Tolstoy,
is this a novel or a history book? I do not mind either way, but please... make up your mind.
Lots of love,
Julie

Easier to read than you might think and actually a really good adventure. I enjoyed more of the love stories and social commentary rather than the descriptions of war but that is to be expected. A very engaging and enjoyable translation that I will be reading again.
why peace is so important and why war is so necessary to maintain peace-answers tolstoy. apart from the wars ..the love stories in the book are quite refreshing.they keep the interest alive to go through this mammoth book.
What can you say about the greatest novel ever written - it's just amazing; and well worth the effort. I liked the translation too, which is up to date, and not clunky like so many translations I have read just lately, especially the Hemming Mankel books.
If you haven't read this book, then you are lucky: the best novel ever written awaits you!
