more This book is a great read under any circumstances. Written in a breezy, spare style, the characters are rich and evocative. The story is a blend of swashbuckling adventure, forbidden romance and dangerous intrigues. And to top these great elements, author Anthony Hope Hawkins gives us Rupert of Hentzau, the greatest villain in literature in my opinion. Not only is he amoral and cunning, he is also by turns charming and dangerous. A great read and a marvelous story.
