«In their death they were not divided.» George Eliot was quite the modernist feministic Victorian authoress. What a read!

I did not like this novel that much ...the events are slow and I did not get Maggie's character yet. At the beginning of the novel she was very wild and at the end she seemed very passive and weak.Further, the setting was not that interesting although a large part of the novel focused on it since it is a nostalgic kine of novel

It's pure poetic heartbreak written with all the intellectual muscle a hungry mind could want. There's relatively little humor here, however. Levity is not George Eliot's strong suit, but her analysis of human nature cuts so deep that even a laughophile like myself barely missed the jollies in this beautiful, brilliant book.

Not as bad as I expected but not as good as I had hoped either. I found the characters a little flat and 2 dimensional - too caricature-esque for my liking. The book also started a little slow but gained momentum after 3 or 4 chapters. Here's hoping Middlemarch fares better.
