Subsequently placed in an a strict and austere boarding school Jane, besides gaining a scholastic education, experiences friendship, love and loss. She eventually becomes a teacher at the school. Yearning for greater adventure, Jane seeks a situation and becomes a governess. Life for Jane contains two marriage proposals and, initially, two refusals. Living by her principles leads Jane back to Mr Rochester - a man she loves (and who loves her) regardless of his physical infirmity and unattractivness.
