I read it for Modernism and I didn't get it at all.

Not a big Conrad fan.

intelligently written and evocative, but the author seems to expect the common reader to relate to many things that may be more particular to his own experience and perspective. i found it frustrating rather than thought-provoking, especially since all the characters were either cynical, depressed or destroyed by their own ideals. joseph conrad seems to me to have become bitter because a highly idealized morality isn't reality.   hide
