He laments the changing landscape and the dying rural areas stating that even the food tastes bland and clean in the "modern America". Interesting that in every decade it is human nature to be saddened/haunted by what was and never will be again. Chocked full of funny observations and interesting encounters. He won the Pulitzer two years later and sadly died 8 years after his trip ended.
