I only skipped one short story in this collection, and rolled my eyes at a few others, but there were some great stories. I loved "The Real Thing" by Alison Goodman so much that I'm out to get the book it's based on.

A somewhat mixed bag.  Two or three I didn't like at all and three I thought were quite good; the rest were at varying levels in between, but mostly pretty good.  The standouts were "I'll Give You My Word" (Diana Wynne Jones), "In the House of the Seven Librarians" (Ellen Klages), and "Wintermoon Wish" (Sharon Shinn).

We bought a copy - hardback - for when our daughter is old enough to enjoy it. Also great for adults who were once kids.

An excellent anthology of fantasy and sci-fi. My favorite is Hives, a story about the next step in social networking and its potentially tragic consequences. Fun and imaginative, I recommend this book if you are looking for some great fantasy and sci-fi short stories.

Wasn't as good as the first Firebirds anthology, but still has a few gems. High sf to fantasy ratio. I prefer fantasy.

I loved this collection.  It included other writers such as Dianna Wynne Jones, and Tamora Pierce.  This book gives you a look at other writers that share the same passion for writing as Francesca Lia Block.

This is a wonderful anthology of science fiction and fantasy short-stories! However, I disliked the last two... they were the longest but I got quite lost in their story. I loved the one about the seven librarians! It's a second in what looks to be like a continuing series, with the first known as "Firebirds". Sharyn does a good job of choosing stories and also you get excerpts...more
 This is a wonderful anthology of science fiction and fantasy short-stories! However, I disliked the last two... they were the longest but I got quite lost in their story. I loved the one about the seven librarians! It's a second in what looks to be like a continuing series, with the first known as "Firebirds". Sharyn does a good job of choosing stories and also you get excerpts from each author about the story and themselves which I appreciated in case I wanted to check out some other books! Pick it up and give some of the stories a read =D Anyone can enjoy them, even if you don't care for fantasy and sci-fi!   hide
