Well it's funny that I picked this book to review for my school's library ( out of all the books i've read). I really enjoy reading it (at least when I can) and I am still half way through. Not the easiest but definitely worth reading. I enjoy the humor though. Saul bellow is master at characterization and description something Im trying to perfect as an aspiring filmmaker. The characters aren't necessary relatable but that's what makes it a thrill.   hide

I'm not sure that I would agree that it's *the* great American novel, but it is stunning reading. It's one of those books where you have to read 200 pages before you start to appreciate it, but the culmination to the philosophical awakening is worth it.

I relate to this character so much; does everyone? Is that why it's good?

My first Saul Bellow, and I love it. May have to name next pet Augie.
