Most facinating about this book is that Jackson uses a bit of slight of hand with her characters so that things you certainly SHOULD notice, you might never. Mary Katherine is a facinating, complex narrator.
I'll confess, the controlling ideas of the novel were lost on me-- or perhaps I didn't give myself enough time to digest it-- until I read the preface, but the context it places the novel in is facinating.
Captivating, subtle, thoughtful, and surprising. It's a great read.
