Awesome book! When there are bad storms and you go to the store you see people stocking up on water, canned goods and toilet paper. This book makes you think long term...how about vitamins, female products, dog food, clothes, extra blankets....? Basically the story is a meteor hits the moon knocking it in closer to the planet. Tides go crazy, volcanoes go off, the planet pretty much gets sent...more

Very well written. The author has you totally engrossed in the scenes she describes and has you feeling the character's emotions as you read. The only problem I have is that there is a lot of death and violence in this book for it to be targeted toward early teens.

This book is terrific - one of the best YA books I've read in a long time, and easily the best science fiction YA book I've ever read. The companion book, "The Dead and the Gone," is also really good, but I thought the first was better. Pfeffer has a third book coming out next year that ties the two together, with Miranda meeting the male protagonist from TDATG, that I...more

One of my favorite YA books, but it's not just for young adults. It's a must read, and you won't be able to put it down.

Jarring, frightening, mesmerizing, and entirely plausible, this sci-fi fantasy is one of them most engrossing YA reads I've had in a long time. An asteroid collides with the moon, knocks it out of its orbit, and the resulting tides, tsunamis, earthquakes, and volcanoes wreak havoc with Earth. Told in diary form in the voice of a typical 16-year old trying to survive with her family, this riveting...more

I've got a thing about End of the World books, and this is a goodie. An asteroid hits the moon, shifts it slightly off its orbit, and all hell breaks loose. The story's told in diary form by Miranda, a 16 year old Pennsylvanian who lives in a small town. One of its minor triumphs is how 'big stuff' (the drowning of cities, the destruction of Yellowstone) sit alongside 'little stuff' - dreams...more

Interesting story & thought provoking topic about how life changes once electricity, heat and common things we take for granted are not available any more. Living in New England becomes a sore set of problems - this story make PA sound challenging enough.

I loved this book. The premise sounds depressing and sad, being it is about the possible end of the world. It really is a fast read.

scary! Because it was written in a very "that could really happen" way. There were only 2 small things I didn't believe. The rest was good stuff It's a nail biter! What makes this story work, is how realistic the pace is. When the moon is hit by an asteroid, it is closer to the earth and changes the tides and weather. Unlike the impossible movie "Day after...more

This was not going to be something that I fell in love with because I had read the first chapter and was kind of bored but then it picked up I was often putting my own feet into the story wondering how I would or what I would do to survive.
