Awesome book! When there are bad storms and you go to the store you see people stocking up on water, canned goods and toilet paper. This book makes you think long term...how about vitamins, female products, dog food, clothes, extra blankets....? Basically the story is a meteor hits the moon knocking it in closer to the planet. Tides go crazy, volcanoes go off, the planet pretty much gets sent into a ice age. This is the story of one family trying to survive. It brings to mind a lot of things people would have to do and sacrifice just to ensure the survival of your loved ones. How long would you go without food so your children can eat? Would you allow your 15 year old daughter to run away with a 45 year old man (gross) just because he can provide for her? Stuff that makes you go Hmmmmm.   hide

Very well written. The author has you totally engrossed in the scenes she describes and has you feeling the character's emotions as you read. The only problem I have is that there is a lot of death and violence in this book for it to be targeted toward early teens.

This book is terrific - one of the best YA books I've read in a long time, and easily the best science fiction YA book I've ever read. The companion book, "The Dead and the Gone," is also really good, but I thought the first was better. One of my favorite YA books,but it's not just for young adults. It's a must read, and you won't be able to put it down.

Interesting story & thought provoking topic about how life changes once electricity, heat and common things we take for granted are not available any more. Living in New England becomes a sore set of problems - this story make PA sound challenging enough.

I loved this book. The premise sounds depressing and sad, being it is about the possible end of the world. It really is a fast read.

scary! Because it was written in a very "that could really happen" way. There were only 2 small things I didn't believe. The rest was good stuff It's a nail biter!
