more I can't believe I never read this whole book earlier. I first encountered The Little Prince when I was taking French in high school. We would read it from the original French, making our own English translations, as well as comparing our work to one of the official translations. However, we were unable to finish the entire book, and unfortunately it got swept away in the clutter of my mind.
Finally picking it up again after a recommendation, I was amazed at its depth and clarity, especially for a children's book. The Little Prince tackles our inability to take in the world with a sense of wonder as we grow, and as we are encompassed about with 'numbers' and other things that are, in the end, nowhere near as important as our relationships.
I was most surprised by the ending, which at first was a little jarring, but then I realized that it was the best way it could have wrapped up - a bite at the frivolity of our busy lives, but with a sparkle of hope as we look up at the stars and know that, somewhere, on planet B612, a boy and his rose are engaged in what we too can experience, if we are willing to slow down and be 'tamed'.
