The vision that drives Dean Jocelin to construct an immense new spire above his cathedral tests the limits of all who surround him. The foundationless stone pillars shriek and the earth beneath them heaves under the structure’s weight as the Dean’s will weighs down his collapsing faith. less
A brilliantly written masterpiece. You really can see how much effort Golding has put into writing this novel. It enables the reader to approach the themes from different depths and really get involved. However, it is a fairly difficult read which means you have to focus constantly. I would advise the reader to not give up and read it at least twice to get the full flavour!
one of the hardest books i ever read, but I am young...I had to read it in school, otherwise I would not finish reading it, in the end I was happy, and proud of my self to finish this book, it was worth it.
It was quite difficult to read at the beginning - I was literally nibbling through the book, but by the end I was into it. So, generally it's very powerful.
